In his keynote at the Tencent Cloud Service Summit 2018 in Guangzhou today, Tencent Founder and CEO Pony Ma introduced his company’s new Super Brain platform and a Three Nets cloud concept comprising the “Internet of Things,” “Internet of Humans” and “Internet of Intelligence.”
Ma highlighted the importance of “Cloud Usage (用云量)” — a Tencent data indicator representing a company’s degree of digitalization — in future cloud services. He also spoke on the “Cloud Usage and Digital Economy Development Report” released by the Tencent Research Institute, which analyzed cloud computing market trends in China.
Ma emphasized the strategic importance of the Three Nets concept in Tencent’s development strategy and the company’s unifying vision for Human, Device, and Service.
- The Internet of Humans represents the connection between people. Along with personal message tools like QQ and WeChat, Tencent will expand its business to include B2B services, and bridge a connection between enterprises and governments.
- The Internet of Things represents the connection between devices. Tencent wants to connect the digital and real worlds with cutting-edge technology, aiming for an “Internet of Everything”.
- The Internet of Intelligence represents the connection between services. With the concept of “AI in All”, Tencent’s Super Brain solution aims to add AI to servers, the cloud, and edge devices across all kinds of industries.
Ma also addressed Tencent’s lack of a vehicle-mounted WeChat service, explaining this was due to concerns the service could be distracting for drivers, and that the WeChat group is considering the feasibility of a voice-only interface. Speech recognition technology would be key to this approach.
