Qualcomm Releases Snapdragon 710; Consolidates Its AI Research

In Beijing today Qualcomm announced the release of its Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform, part of its recently introduced 700 series portfolio. Snapdragon 710 is aimed at smartphone enhancement and features a multi-core AI Engine and neural network processing capabilities. The American semiconductor and telecommunications giant also announced plans to consolidate AI research across its offices and operations.

Said Qualcomm Vice President of Product Management Kedar Kondap, “By incorporating key AI capabilities and performance advancements, Snapdragon 710 is designed to transform our customers’ products into the ultimate personal assistant, enhancing critical everyday consumer experiences, such as high-end camera features that will benefit from on-device high-speed AI processing, without sacrificing battery life.”

Snapdragon 710’s architecture delivers significant performance improvements over Qualcomm’s 600-tier series in AI capabilities, Capture, Display, and Connectivity. Senior R&D Director Jilei Hou says the 710’s heterogeneous computing model also has unique advantages regarding workload, and Qualcomm can leverage this capability through its mobile SoC.

Snapdragon 710 has already shipped, and is expected to be integrated with smartphones in the coming months.

The company also introduced its Qualcomm AI Research Organization, a “cross-functional, cooperative effort that encompasses all of the cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) research taking place across the company.”

“We are constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with AI,” said company CTO and Executive Vice President Jim Thompson. “At Qualcomm AI Research, we are dedicated to bringing together some of the best minds in the field to shape the roadmap of AI hardware and software platforms. Our goal is to make on-device AI ubiquitous.”
